Before the main release of Ninja Gaiden 4, developers from Koei Tecmo and PlatinumGames had already revealed in interviews that additional weapons would arrive through downloadable content. Now the DLC titled Super Ninja Twins has officially launched, included with the deluxe edition or available separately for purchase. After spending time with the expansion, many players quickly felt that the experience of the two new weapons alone was worth the price. While browsing gameplay discussions beside a Crickex Affiliate strategy thread, it becomes clear that the update significantly expands both combat depth and challenge variety within the game.
The Super Ninja Twins DLC includes several major additions. Ryu Hayabusa and Yakumo each receive a brand new weapon, while an additional tower climbing mode called Path of the Abyss introduces a demanding survival style challenge. The expansion also adds three new story chapters along with related combat trials derived from those stages. Accessing the extra missions requires a completed save file from the base game, ensuring that players entering the DLC already possess a solid understanding of the game’s fast paced combat system.
Among all the additions, the new weapons clearly take center stage. Yakumo gains a weapon called the Crimson Moon Scythe. In its standard form it functions as a double headed scythe, but when transformed into the form of the Nuyanchou it becomes a massive single scythe. Compared to the slower but powerful scythes seen in earlier titles, Yakumo’s version feels far more agile in normal form and almost resembles the dual blades from the base game. Several of its attacks involve throwing motions that behave almost like a returning boomerang or magical artifact. Basic attack chains already include a mix of close range and mid range strikes, and the weapon offers numerous aerial launch moves that can control enemy positioning.
When activated in its transformed state, the giant scythe covers an enormous attack radius and can continue damaging enemies even when thrown at a distance. Several techniques also force enemies to shift positions through pushing or gathering effects, allowing players to pull opponents together before unleashing powerful follow up attacks. Mastering the enhanced form allows players to reshape enemy formations in combat, something veteran players often describe as controlling the battlefield. Because of this capability, the scythe may even become a powerful tool for beginners who want to simplify difficult encounters.
Despite its versatility, the Crimson Moon Scythe is not the easiest weapon to master. Players accustomed to the base game’s swords or staffs may initially feel that the double scythe has a slightly shorter reach. Its transformation mechanics also require careful timing. Many of the throwing techniques leave the user vulnerable for a moment, and enemies that remain active can quickly punish careless attacks. Achieving smooth and stylish combat with the weapon demands practice and precise timing.
Ryu Hayabusa’s new weapon takes a different approach. His addition is a chained sword known as the Snakebone Gate. Although described as a sword, it behaves more like a hybrid between a blade and a fist weapon. Most of its normal actions involve rapid martial arts strikes, while heavier attacks extend the blade outward to pull enemies closer or dash forward aggressively. This greatly enhances Ryu’s ability to link combos together. His aerial combat was already impressive in the base game, but the original Dragon Sword sometimes struggled to maintain distance control. With the new pulling and dashing abilities, Ryu gains the extra mobility that advanced combo players have long desired.
The Snakebone Gate does not possess a special transformation state like Yakumo’s scythe, instead relying on the existing Flash techniques. While some players may see that as a limitation, the weapon’s flexible movements actually create more combo opportunities. Skilled players can weave together aerial launches from the Dragon Sword with long range attacks from the Snakebone Gate, chaining them with fast dashes to create spectacular combat sequences.
In addition to combo potential, the weapon also offers wide area attacks. Its spinning heavy strike produces a large area of effect capable of launching multiple enemies at once, while follow up attacks after dodging can sweep through nearby opponents quickly. However, this crowd control ability works best against weaker enemies. When tougher opponents with long lasting armor appear in the same group, players must adjust their approach carefully.
For many fans exploring the DLC content and comparing strategies through online discussions that appear alongside Crickex Affiliate gaming communities, the expansion represents more than just extra weapons. It introduces new ways to experiment with combat systems that reward creativity and precision. With new story missions, a demanding survival mode, and two unique weapon styles to master, Super Ninja Twins adds meaningful depth to Ninja Gaiden 4 and gives experienced players fresh challenges to conquer.
